Plant a Tree Cocktail
Through the Plant a Tree Cocktail initiative, the project founders have committed to planting one tree for every cocktail sold as part of the program. But they take it a step further — each tree is personalized with a tag bearing the name of the person on whose behalf it was planted (i.e., the cocktail buyer). A photo of the planted tree is then taken and sent back to the customer as a keepsake.
In addition to designing and developing the project’s website, we were also responsible for building a system that:
- captures customer contact details and their chosen tree name on iPads placed at participating venues;
- receives photos of the planted trees through a backend interface and associates them with the correct customer;
- delivers these photos back to customers via email;
- and tracks cocktail sales per venue, providing data for financial reconciliation, since tree planting is funded through the revenue generated at these establishments.
To deliver this functionality, we designed and developed an iOS application along with a web-based system that communicates directly with the iPads. This web solution is built on Drupal CMS and includes multi-role backend features for both venues and project administrators — all while powering the public-facing website.
Plant a Tree
Launched shortly after the cocktail campaign, the standalone Plant a Tree platform allows anyone to sponsor tree planting — even without purchasing a cocktail. At our client’s request, we built the ordering system on the Shoprenter e-commerce engine, developed a fully custom Shoprenter theme, and integrated the Barion online payment solution.
